2、na3GraduateSchooloftheChineseAcademyofSciences(ReceivedMarch23,2004;RevisedNovember9,2004;AcceptedNovember10,2004)Anewlyinstalledmeteorradarhasbeeninstalledtomeasurewindsinthemesosphereandlowerthermosphere(MLT)overWuhan(114.4◦E,30.6◦N).Inthepresentstudy,adatabaseofthefirst25months(February2002–Fe
3、bruary2004)ofobservationshasbeenanalyzedtoinvestigatetheclimatologyofmeanwindsandtides.Thedailyaveragezonalwindischaracteredbyastrongshearinsolsticesandanintenseeastwardflowinsummer.Thedailyaveragemeridionalwindisnorthwardinwinterandsouthwardinotherseasons.Therearesomediscrepanciesbetweentheradar
4、meanwindsandtheHWM93modelwinds.Thesummerzonalwindsandmeridionalwindsfromthemodelareobviouslyweakerthanourobservations.TheanalysisontidesindicatesthatthediurnaltideisdominantatWuhan.Theseasonalvariabilityisobservedinboththediurnalandsemidiurnaltidalamplitudeswiththemaximumvaluesoccurringusuallynea
