4、ein1980.upongraduationfromlawschool,ibecameapracticinglawyerwiththewashington,dc,firmofward,hardraker,andross. in1981,iwasintroducedtonowjudgethomasbyamutualfriend.judgethomastoldmethathewasanticipatingapoliticalappointment,andheaskedifiwouldbeinterestedinworkingwithhim.hewas,infact,appointeda
5、sassistantsecretaryofeducationforcivilrights.afterhehadtakenthatpost,heaskedifiwouldbeehisassistant,andiaeptedthatposition. inmyearlyperiodthere,ihadtwomajorprojects.thefirstwasanarticleiwroteforjudgethomas'signatureontheeducationofminoritystudents.thesecondwastheorganizationofaseminaronhigh-r
