3、wentiethcentury.Theteachingandwritingofthesescholarscontributedtotheformulationoftheoreticalframeworksdesignedtofacilitatecross-nationalcomparison.Whenthepurviewofcomparativepoliticsexpandedinthe1950sand1960stoincludethedevelopingareas,theadvantagesofmult

4、inationcomparisonsbecameevenmoreevident.oliticalsciencedevelopedasaresearchdisci-SomitandTanenhauswroteintheirhistoryofthedis-plineintheUnitedStatesundertheinfluenceofcipline,“theybecameincreasinglyparochialinoutlookPGermanuniversitiesinthequartercenturybe

5、-aswellasintraining”(1967,38).ThedecliningcitationforetheestablishmentoftheAmericanPoliticalSci-offoreignsourcesevidentinjournals,theincreasingenceAssociationin1903.TheoutstandingreputationemphasisonAmericangovernmentinthecurriculum,oftheinstitutionsofhig

6、hereducationinGermanyat-andthegrowingcommitmenttoprovideeducationfortractedAmericansinterestedinthestudyofhistorycitizenshipandpublicaffairsledtotheAmericaniza-andgovernment.Boththescopeandthemethodsoftionofthedisciplineintheseconddecadeofthetwenti-whatwa
