4、le,theozoneholeoverAntarctica--thedecreaseintheconcentrationofozonehighintheatmosphere--ismeasuredbyremotesensing,asarechangesindeserts,forests,andfarmlandsaroundtheworld.SuchmeasurementscanbeusedinmanyareasofspecializationbesidesEarthsystemscience.Archaeology,fore
5、xample,hasbenefitedfromsatelliteobservationsthatrevealthetracesofancienttraderoutesacrosstheArabianDesert.NewtoolsforexploringpreviouslyinaccessibleareasoftheEarthhavealsoaddedgreatlytoourknowledgeoftheEarthsystem.Smalldeep-seasubmarinesallowscientiststotraveltothe
6、depthsoftheocean.Theretheyhavediscoverednewspeciesandecosystemsthrivingneardeep-seaventsthatemitheat,sasses,andmineral-richwater.JustasimportantasnewmethodsofmeasurementandexplorationarenewwaystostoreandanalyzedataabouttheEarthsystem.Computer-basedsoftwareprogramsk
