2、viceinWestVirginiain1908.OtherssaythefirstFather'sDayceremonywasheldinVancouver,Washington.ThepresidentoftheChicagobranch（分部）oftheLions'Club,HarryMeek,issaidtohavecelebratedthefirstFather'sDaywithhisorganizationin1915;andthedaythattheychosewasthethirdSundayinJune,theclosestdatetoMeek'sownbirthday!
3、RegardlessofwhenthefirsttrueFather'sDayoccurred,thestrongestpromoteroftheholidaywasMrs.BruceJohnDoddofSpokane,Washington.Mrs.Doddfeltthatshehadanoutstandingfather.HewasaveteranoftheCivilWar.Hiswifehaddiedyoung,andhehadraisedsixchildrenwithouttheirmother.In1909,Mrs.Doddapproachedherownministerandot
4、hersinSpokaneabouthavingachurchservicededicatedtofathersonJune5,herfather'sbirthday.Thatdatewastoosoonforherministertopreparetheservice,sohespokeafewweekslateronJune19th.Fromthenon,thestateofWashingtoncelebratedthethirdSundayinJuneasFather'sDay.Childrenmadespecialdesserts,orvisitedtheirfathersifth
5、eylivedapart.Statesandorganizationsbeganlobbying（游说）CongresstodeclareanannualFather'sDay.In1916,PresidentWoodrowWilsonapprovedofthisidea,butitwasnotuntil1924whenPresidentCalvinCoolidgemadeitanationaleventto"establishmoreintimaterelationsbetweenfathersandtheirchildrenandtoimpressuponfathersthefullm
6、easureoftheirobligations."Sincethen,fathershadbeenhonoredandrecognizedbytheirfamiliesthroughoutthecountryonthethirdSundayinJune.Whenchildrencan'tvisittheirfathersortakethemouttodinner,theysendagreetingcard.Traditionally,fathersprefergreetingcardsthatarenottoosentimental.Mostgreetingcardsarewhimsic
