4、yousignalyourreactions,andcommunicatethemtothespeakerwithoutsayingaword.Ireferredamomentagoto“theaverageEuropean”,becausebodylanguageisverymuchtiedtoculture,andinordernottomisunderstand,ornottobemisunderstood,youmustrealizethis.AsmilingChinese,forinst
5、ance,maynotbeapprovingbutsomewhatembarrassed.QuitealotofworkisnowbeingdoneonthesubjectofNVC,whichisobviouslyimportant,forinstance,tomanagers,whohavetodealeverydaywiththeirstaff,andhavetounderstandwhatotherpeoplearefeelingiftheyaretocreategoodworkingco
6、nditions.Bodylanguage,orNVCsignals,aresometimescategorisedintofivekinds:1.bodyandfacialgestures;2.eyecontract;3.Bodycontractor“proximity”;4.clothingandphysicalappearance;and5.thequalityofspeech.Iexpectyouunderstoodallthose,exceptperhaps"proximity."Thi
7、ssimplymeans"closeness".Insomecultures-andIamsurethisisaculturalfeatureandnotanindividualone-itisquitenormalforpeopletostandclosetogether,ortomoreorlessthrusttheirfaceintoyourswhentheyaretalkingtoyou.Inothercultures,thisisdisliked;Americans,forinstanc
