2、haveindeedalteredtheprojectfinancemarket.Therearenow27financialinstitutionsthathavecommittedtousingtheEquatorPrinciplestomanageenvironmentalandsocialriskintheirprojectfinancebusinesses.TheEquatorbanksrepresentedabout75%oftheprojectfinancemarketin2003.WhataretheEquatorPrinciples?Theya

3、reasetofpoliciesandproceduresforassessing,managingandmonitoringenvironmentalandsocialriskinprojectfinancelending.Ratherthanaspirationalstatementsaboutprotectingtheenvironment,theyprovideaclearandmeasurablestandardofsustainablegoodpractice.Importantly,theyalsoprovideproceduresforenvir

4、onmentalandsocialassessments.TheEquatorPrinciplesarebasedontheenvironmentalandsocialpoliciesandguidelinesoftheInternationalFinanceCorporation(IFC),theprivatesectordevelopmentarmoftheWorldBankGroup.Today,successfulandbroadsyndicationofaprojectfinancedealmeansEquatorcomplianceisexpecte

5、d.Thefactthatthishashappenedistestimonytothechangethatisunderwayinthefinancialmarkets.EnvironmentalandsocialStewardshipisnotjustseenassomethingthatisnicetodo.itisanessentialcomponentofriskmanagementandgoodbusiness.Thetransformationinbankthinkingonenvironmentalandsocialissuesstandsins
