3、edorderintheworld.Itisaprinciplewhichpermitsastateintheselfishpursuitofpowertodisregarditstreatiesanditssolemnpledges,whichsanctionstheuseofforceorthreatofforceagainstthesovereigntyandindependenceofotherstates.Suchaprinciple,strippedofalldisguise,issurelythemereprimitivedoctrinethatm
4、ightisright,andifthisprinciplewereestablishedthroughtheworld,thefreedomofourowncountryandofthewholeBritishCommonwealthofnationswouldbeindanger.Butfarmorethanthis,thepeoplesoftheworldwouldbekeptinbondageoffear,andallhopesofsettledpeaceandofsecurity,ofjusticeandliberty,amongnations,wou
5、ldbeended.Thisistheultimateissuewhichconfrontsus.Forthesakeofallthatweourselvesholddear,andoftheworldorderandpeace,itisunthinkablethatweshouldrefusetomeetthechallenge.ItistothishighpurposethatInowcallmypeopleathomeandmypeoplesacrosstheseas,whowillmakeourcausetheirown.Iaskthemtostandc
6、almandfirmandunitedinthistimeoftrial.----Thetaskwillbehard.Theremaybedarkdaysahead,andwarcannolongerbeconfinedtothebattlefield,butwecanonlydotherightasweseetheright,andreverentlycommitourcausetoGod.Ifoneandallwekeepresolutelyfaithfultoit,readyforwhateverserviceorsacrificeitmaydemand,
