1、EnvironmentalManagementSystemToolHowtousethisToolTheDepartmentoftheEnvironment,Water,HeritageandtheArts(DEWHA)hasdevelopedtheEMSTooltoassistofficebasedorganisationwhoarecommittedtoimplementinganEMS.ThetoolisbasedontheAustralianandNewZealandstandardforenvironmentalmanagement(AS/NZS14001)

2、.ItisanticipatedthatthetoolwillhelptoreducethetimeandcostoftenassociatedwithimplementinganEMSandprovideawelldevelopedsystemforthemanagementofenvironmentalimpactsresultingfromthedaytodayoperationsofofficebasedorganisations.TheEMSToolconsistsofguidancenotes,amanualandasetofregisters.There

3、gistersandmanualhavebeendesignedastemplateswhichmaybeusedbyorganisationstosetupthedocumentationfortheirEMS.TheguidancenotesprovideexplanatoryinformationoneachsectionofanEMS(followingtheISO14001framework)andmayprovideassistanceinunderstandingeachofthestepsinvolvedinestablishinganddocumen

4、tinganEMS.ThemanualandregistersaresuggestedformatsfordocumentinganorganisationsEMS.Partsorallofthemanualandregistersmaybemodified,deletedorsubstitutedasanorganisationseesfit.OrganisationswithanexistingenvironmentalmanagementsystemmaybeabletoutilisepartsoftheEMSToolaspartofthecontinualim

5、provementoftheirmanagementsystem.TheEMSToolconsistsofthreemodules:A.GuidanceNotesB.ManualC.RegistersThisversionoftheEMSToolispresentedinasingledocument.TheintentionofthisversionistoprovidethereaderwithaneasywaytoviewtheentireEMSToolinsoftcopy.TheToolincludeshyperlinksateachofthemainsect

6、ionsoftheguidancenotesandthemanualtoenablethereadertoflickquicklybetweentherelatingsectionsofeachmodule.Hyperlinksarealsoincludedtotherelevantregisterwheretheyhavebeenreferredtoinboththeguidancenotesandthemanual.‘Howtouse’instructionsarelocatedatthebeginningofeachmodule.AcknowledgementT
