2、ltizoneairflowandpollutanttransportmodelstopredicttheimpactofresidentialIAQcontroltechnologies.Mea-surementsoftheperformanceofseveralparticulateaircleaningdevicesandrelatedparticletransportparameterswereperformedinaone-roomtesthouse.Thesemeasurementswereusedtocalculatebuildingairchangerates,part

3、icledepositionratesandpenetrationfactors,andaircleanerremovalefficiencies.Twoseparate24htestswereperformedwithtwoofthetestedaircleaners,andthemeasuredairchangeratesandparticleconcentrationswerecomparedtopre-dictedvaluesobtainedwiththeCONTAMmodel.Forbothtests,simulated24haverageairchangerateswere

4、within5%ofmeasuredairchangeratesandsimulated24haverageparticleconcentrationswerewithin30%ofmeasurementsforallparticlesizes.INTRODUCTIONAneffortisunderwaywithintheBuildingandFireResearchLaboratory(BFRL)oftheNationalInstituteofStandardsandTechnology(NIST)todevelopresidentialperformancestan-dardsco

5、veringanumberofbuildingattributes,includingindoorairquality(Persily1999).Per-formancestandardsspecifyhowcomponentsmustperforminsteadofthemannerinwhichthatperformanceistobeobtained.Thestandardsrelevanttotheindoorenvironmentwillultimatelybebasedontheindoorlevelsofspecificairbornecontaminantsandthe

6、rmalcomfortparameters.Earlyversionsofthestandards,however,willlikelybebasedonperformanceintermsofbuild-ingventilationratesduetothecurrentlackofknowledgeofhumanresponsetoindoorpollutantlevelsandotherenvironmentalparameters.Becausemeasuringventilationrates,contaminantconcentrationsandthermalcomfor

7、tparametersinalargenumberofbuildingswouldbeexpen-sive,compliancewiththesecriteriawilllikelyinvolvetheuseofpredictivemethods.Thesepre-dictivemethodswillbebasedonbuildingventilationandindoorairqualitymodelssuchastheCONTAMmulti
