3、ter.(SeeFigure2).”WhilethenoteinFigure2states“Extendsillflashinghorizontallytoprojectbeyondverticaljambflashingappliedlater.”Thisraisestwoquestions.Shouldthesillflashingbejustevenwiththeedgeofthejambflashingorextendpastthejambflashing?Ifthesillflashingextends

4、beyondtheedgeofthejambflashing,howfarshoulditextend?ItisAAMA’spositionthatthetextinadocumentisconsideredauthoritativeoverthetextinanillustration.However,thetwostatementsarenotreallyinconflictwitheachother.Therequirementgiveninthetextrepresentstheminimumrequir

5、ementnecessarytofollowtheproceduresinthestandardpractice.Certainly,extendingthesillflashingbeyondtheedgeofthejambflashingexceedstherequirementinthestandardpracticebutexceedingtheminimuminthiscaseisnotharmfulandmaybebeneficial.Ifthesillflashingiscutexactlytoth

6、ewidthofthewindowopeningplustwicethewidthofthejambflashingthenitmustbeinstalledwithsomeprecisionsinceitmustalignwiththeedgesofthejambflashingwhichisappliedlater.Inaddition,ifthebuildingframingisconstructedwithouthardsheathing,itmaybewisetoextendthesillflashin

7、gpastthenextframingstudinthewall.Thisallowsmechanicalattachmentoftheuppercornerofthesillflashingtoastructuralbuildingcomponentandcanpreventcurlingoftheendsofthesillflashingwhichmightmakeinstallingthewindowandsubsequentlythejambflashingeasierandmoresuccessful.
