4、abCompanyinAmericanFork,UtahuntilthetimeofhisemploymentattheUSDA-ARS,Mid-SouthArealsSugarcaneResearchUnitatHouma,Louisianain20()().Dr.Tewhasover25yearsofresearchexperienceinthegeneticimprovementofsugarcane,selectionofimprovedsugarcanecultivars,andtheapplicationofnon-conventionalapproac
5、hestowardthegeneticimprovementinsugarcane.Hehasledteamsthatdeveloped21commercialsugarcanecultivarsforHawaii(14)andLouisiana(7).The14developedforHawaii,eventuallyoccupied85%ofthetotalcaneacreageinHawaii.TheremainingsevenwerereleasedforcommercialproductioninLouisianawithfourofthesebeingf
6、orsugarproductionandthreefortheproductionofbiofuels.Hehasservedas:amemberandalsochairmanoftheGermplasmandBreedingCommitteeoftheInternationalSocietyofSugarCaneTechnologists(ISSCT),chairmanoftheUSDA-ARSSugarcaneCropGermplasmCommittee,sub-committeememberoftheCropRegistrationCommitteeofthe
