4、ndedtoreplacetheusualsophomore-level“modernphysics”course.ThegoalsofPartVIIaremuchmorelimited,thetopiccoverageisnarrower,andthemathematicsislesssophisticated.Theintentistointroducebasicphenomena,concepts,andterminologytothosestudentsforwhomthisisthelastcourseinphysics.Thosestud

5、entswhodogoontomodernphysicswillbebetterpreparedfortheincreasedmathematicalsophisticationbythisinitialexposure,onamorephysicallevel,tothemajorideas.Allstudentsarefamiliarwithandusetheterms“atom”and“electron,”butmosthaveonlyvaguenotionsastowhatthesetermsmean.Studentsbringwiththe
