3、tsubtractstheautomobilemagneticfield(thedistortion)fromthestrongerearthmagneticfieldsresultinginahighlyaccuratecompassreading.CompassInstallationTheperformanceofacompasswi11greatlydependonitsinstallationlocation.Acompassrelicsontheearth"smagncticfieldtoprovideheading.Anydistortionsofearthmeigne

4、ticfieldbyothersourcessuchasacarmassiveironcomponentsshouldbecompensatedforinordertodetermineanaccurateheading.Sourcesofmagneticfieldsindnyautomobileincludepermanentmagnetsmostlyinitsaudiospeakers,motors,electriccurrentsflowinginitswiring一eitherdeorac,andferro-magneticmetalssuchassteeloriron.Th

5、einfluenceofthesesourcesofinterferenceonanelectroniccompassaccuracycanbegreatlyreducedbyplacingthecompassfarawayfromthem.Someofthefieldeffeetscanbecompcnsatedbywayofcalibratingthecompassforadefinedlocationintermsofmagneticinterference.However,itisnotalwayspossibletocompensatefortimevaryingmagne

6、ticfields;forexample,disturbancesgeneratedbythemotionofmagneticmetals,orunpredictableelectricalcurrentinanearbypowerlines.Magneticshieldingcanbeusedforlargefielddisturbancesfrommotorsoraudiospeakers.Thebestwaytoreducedisturbancesisdistance.Also,neverenclosethecompassinamagneticallyshieldedmetal

7、lichousing.CompassTiltErrorsHeadingerrorsduetoatiltdependsomewhatongeographiclocation.Attheequator,tilterrorsarelesscriticalsincetheearth'sfieldisstrictlyinthehorizontalplane.ThisprovideslargerXandYreadingsand1ittleoftheZcomporien
