3、tationofhighpowercompensators.Thispaperdescribestheprinciplesofco・ntrolledreactivepowercompensation,particularlyinthecontextofpowersyst・ems.Itfocusesonactivestaticpowerconverter-basedcompensatorsanddiscussesissuerelatedtothepowercircuittopologyandcontrol

4、techniquesincludingtheimpactofPulseWidthModulation(PWM)techniques.Compensatorsbasedoncurrentandvoltagesourceconvertersandonaccontrollers,bothintheshuntandseriesconfigurations,arecovered.Methodstoenhancepowercapacityusin・gmulti-levelandmulti-pulsearrangeme

6、randsupportthevoltageoflargeindustrialloads,suchaslinecommutatedthyristordrivesandelectricarcfurnaces.Reactivepowercompensationalsoplaysacrucialroleatthetransmissionlevelinsupportingthe1--inevoltageandstabilizingthesystem.Rotatingsynchronouscondensersand

7、m-echanically-switchedcapacitorandinductorbankshavebeenreplacedinthe1970sbythyristor-basedtechnologies:intypicalinstallations,athyristor-contro・liedreactor(TCR)providesvariablelaggingvars,andfixedorthyristorswitchedcapacitors(TSC)providetheleadingvars.The

8、combinationofbothdevicesinparallelallowscontinuouscontrolofvarsoverawiderangeofvalues,fromlea-dingtolaggingvars(Gyugyi1979).Alargenumberofunitshavebeensucces-sfullyinstalledandoperatedformanyyears.Atthesametime,thep
