3、rmanceareculturalinnature.Contemporarydemographictrendsandrelatedlyprominenteducationalconcernsreinforcetheviewthatteachereducationshouldprovidepreparationforreflectivepractice,agoalrequiringmodificationofsomenativemeaning-makingpropensities.Thatis,untutoredmeaning-co
4、nstructionisapttoreflectone’ssocialbackgroundand,consequently,maybetaintedbybias,prejudice,andstereotypicalthinkinginimicaltotheschool’sprofessedhumandevelopmentgoals.Toooften,though,suchclaimsaboutculturalbarriersandpreferableapproachestopracticerestonappealstointuit
5、ivelygraspeddistinctionsbetween“good”and“bad”teachers.TheconceptofhumanhabitusasdevelopedbyFrenchsociologistPierreBourdieu1maybeusefulforbringinggreaterspecificitytonotionsofteachermeaning-construction.Bourdieuclaimsthatmeaning-constructionisaprocessoffargreatercomple
