2、thasbeenaunifyingconstructforresearchersandforpsychologists,socialworkers,andothermentalhealthprofessionalswhoprovideservicesforinfants,children,andadolescents.Thenumberofchildrenandadolescentspresentingwithattachmentissuesandattachmentdis-ordersinthefostercaresystem,in

3、theinternationalanddomesticadoptionprocess,andinschoolsystemsintheU.S.,continuestoincreaseannually(ChildrensDefenseFund,1998;Gallup,Moore,&Schussel,1995;Levy&Orlans,1998;Steward&ODay,2000).Upto80%ofhigh-riskfamiliesaredealingwithissuesofabuseandne-glect,poverty,domestic

4、violence,historyofintergenerationalabuseanddepression,andsubstanceabuse.Thesefamiliespossessthepo-tentialtoraisechildrenwithdisorganized/disorientedattachmentpatterns,and/orattachmentdisorders(Carlson,Cicchetti,Barnett,&Braunwald,1989;Levy&Orlans,2000;Lyons-Ruth,1996;Na

5、tionalCenteronChildAbuseandNeglect,1993).Animportantaspectofprovidingeffectiveservicesforinfants,children,andadolescentswithattachmentproblemsistheabilitytoassessandmeasureattachmentissuesappropriatelyacrossthelife-span.Inrecentyearsprimaryattachmentresearchershaveat-te
