3、eristics.Lessemphasishassofarbeenplacedonthetrackmodelsusedinthesesimulationswhichhavetendedtobefairlysimplelinearrepresentationsofthetrackandsubgradealthoughthesecanalsocontainsignificantdiscretenon-linearities.Thispaperfirstreviewsthetrackmodelsusedincur

4、rentrailwayvehicledynamicsoftwareandidentifiestheirmainlimitations.Theparticularfocusoftheworkreportedhereistherailrolldegreeoffreedom(DOF)anditsinfluenceonthewheelrailcontactcondition.TherigidbodytrackmodelinthesoftwaretoolVI-RailpoweredbyMSCAdamsismodifie

5、dtofullytakeintoaccountrailrollincombinationwiththenon-linearon-linecontactalgorithm.Variousstaticanddynamictrackcasesaredesignedtotestthehypothesisthatrailrollmayaffectthecontactcondition.Resultsshowtheinfluenceofthedynamicrailrollonthelocationoftheconta
