4、rssitanddiscussconceptdesignshapesacrossatablefromeachother,priortomakingafinaldecisionabouttheproductdetails.Byusingdifferentsensorymodalities,suchasvoice,handmotionsandgestures,productdesignerscanconveydesignideasthroughtheVR-basedcomputer-aideddesign(CAD
5、)system.Inthisscenario,themulti-sensoryinterfacebetweenhumanandcomputerplaysacentralrolewithrespecttousability,usefulnessandaccuracy.Thecurrentpaperfocusesondeterminingtherequirementsforthemulti-sensoryuserinterfaceandassessingtheapplicationsofdifferentinpu
6、tandoutputmechanismsinthevirtualenvironment(VE).Inordertoevaluatethismulti-sensoryuserinterface,thispaperformulatesthetypicalactivitiesinproductshapedesignintoasetofrequirementsfortheVR-CADsystem.Onthebasisoftheserequirements,weinterviewedtypicalCADusersabo
7、uttheeffectivenessofusingdifferentsensoryinputandoutputinteractionmechanismssuchasvisual,auditoryandtactile.Accordingtotheresultsoftheseinvestigations,anodalnetworkofdesignactivitythatdefinesthemulti-sensoryuserinterfaceoftheVR-CADsystemisdeterminedinthecur
8、rentresearch.TheVR-CADsystemisstillbeingdeveloped.However,voicecommandinput,handmotioninput,three-dimensionalvisualoutputandauditoryoutputhavebeensuccessfullyintegratedintothecurrentsystem.Moreover,sev
