5、aseteaminnovativeness.Ratherthanapproachingtheproblemfromanoutcome-orientedstance,ashasmuchofthepreviousresearch,thisstudyexaminedhowgenderdifferencesmayaffectspecificphasesofthedesignprocess.Seventy-threefirst-yearengineeringstudentscompletedabriefideagenerationtask
6、aspartofadesignpracticalexam.Thestudentswereaskedtolistwaystoreduceenergyconsumptionatalocalpubliclibrary.Intheir411solutions,studentsutilizedfiveenergyreductionstrategies(reduceusage,increaseefficiency,alternativeenergy,encourageconservation,andeconomics)andidentifi
7、edfourenergyconservationareas(lighting,heating/cooling,electronics/appliances,andgeneral).Theproportionsofmaleandfemalestudentsolutions(N=370and41respectively)utilizingeachstrategyandwithineachenergyconservationareawerecomparedusingFisher’sexacttest.Femalestudentswer
