3、ttheirunderlyingdecisionmodels(tool-building),studentsareexposedtothemathematicalfoundationsofdecisionscience,gainexperienceapplyingthemtorealisticproblems,andhoneprogrammingskillsbyimplementingdecisionalgorithmsinanobject-orientedframework.Keywords:decisionsupportsys
4、tems,object-orientedprogramming,datastructures,tool-use,tool-building.INTRODUCTIONDSScoursesareinterdisciplinaryinnature.Inabusinessschool,theyaretypicallyhousedwithinaCISorMISdepartment.Yet,muchoftheircontentinvolvestopicstaughtinmanagementscienceordecisionsciencecur
5、ricula,suchasexpectedvalue/utility,multi-criteriondecisionmodeling,linearandnonlinearoptimization.AItopicsarealsodiscussedinDSScourses;drawnfrompsychology,logic,biology,softwareengineering,evolutionaryscience,andprobability.Duetothisdiversityofbackground,anddifference
6、sininterestsamongDSSinstructors,assignedlabworkinthesecoursesvaryconsiderably.Theauthorconductedasearchofon-lineDSSsyllabiinU.S.universitiestoascertainthesoftwaretoolsmostcommonlyusedinDSScourses.ViaInfoseekandGooglesearchengines,withthesearchcriteria“DecisionSupportS
7、ystem”and“Syllabus”,thesearchproducedover400hits.ThesewereprunedtoincludeonlysyllabifromU.S.businessschoolcurriculaoffour-yearandgraduateinstitutionsfromthelastfiveyears(1997–2001),resultinginafinallistof47syllabi.Thesyllabiwerescannedtodeterminethesoftwareusedforlaba
