2、ogramsthatareflexibleandeasytomaintain.Ontheotherhand,generalityhasaprice:efficiency.Aspecializedprogramsolvingaparticularproblemisoftensignif-icantlyfasterthanageneralprogram.However,thedevelopmentofspecializedsoftwareistime-consuming,andislikelytoexceedtheproductionoft

3、oday’sprogrammers.Newtechniquesarerequiredtosolvethisso-calledsoftwarecrisis.Partialevaluationisaprogramspecializationtechniquethatreconcilesthebenefitsofgeneralitywithefficiency.ThisthesispresentsanautomaticpartialevaluatorfortheAnsiCprogramminglanguage.Thecontentofthis

4、thesisisanalysisandtransformationofCprograms.Wedevelopseveralanalysesthatsupportthetransformationofaprogramintoitsgeneratingex-tension.Ageneratingextensionisaprogramthatproducesspecializedprogramswhenexecutedonpartsoftheinput.Thethesiscontainsthefollowingmainresults.•

5、Wedevelopagenerating-extensiontransformation,anddescribespecializationofthevariouspartsofC,includingpointersandstructures.•Wedevelopconstraint-basedinter-proceduralpointerandbinding-timeanalysis.Bothanalysesarespecifiedvianon-standardtypeinferencesystems,andimple-mente

6、dbyconstraintsolving.•Wedevelopaside-effectandanin-useanalysis.Theseanalysesaredevelopedintheclassicalmonotonedata-flowanalysisframework.Someintriguingsimilaritieswithconstraint-basedanalysisareobserved.•Weinvestigateseparateandincrementalprogramanalysisandtransformatio

7、n.Re-alisticprogramsarestructuredintomodules,whichbreakdowninter-proceduralanalysesthatneedglobalinformationaboutfunctions.•Weprovethatpartialevaluationatmostcanaccomplishlinearspeedup,anddevelopanautomaticspeedupanalysis.•Westudythestrongertransformationtechniquedriv
