2、esystempressure,mechanicalsuperheatwascalculatedfromtheprocessingpressure.Theexperimentalresultsshowadiffer-entdistributionfromtheconventionalnucleationpredictions,basedoneitherchemicalsuperheatormechanicalsuperheat.Alsonotedwastheshearenergydependenc
3、e.Variousnucleationmechanismsarediscussedtoaddresstheen-ergyroleplayedbyshearinfoamextrusion.INTRODUCTIONoamextrusionhaslongbeenusedasaneffectiveandeconomicFwayinproducingqualitylow-densityproductsintheareaofinsula-tion,energyabsorption,andprotection[
4、1].Sincethepolymer’sperfor-manceandweightratiodoesnotappeartofollowalinearrelationshipwithdensityforcellularproducts[2],foamproductscanbedeveloped,notonlytogreatlyenlargethepropertywindow,buttousethepolymertoitsfullest.Anichemarkethasbeenandcontinuest
5、obedevelopedforthermoplasticfoams.Extrusionitselfinvolvescomplexthermaltransfersamidpolymerphasechangestomatchthethermoplasticpolymer’snatureforoptimalproduct.Thescrewrotation,ingeneral,generatesmechanicalenergytofacilitatemeltingandsheartoenhanceblen
