3、oductionin2009.Overall,2009wasthemostchallengingyearforPVsuppliersinrecentmemory,withsevereinitialoversupply(exacerbatedbytheevaporationofSpainasamarketofanyconsequenceandthelossofprojectfinancing)anddrasticpricedrops.Thisconsequentlyledtolargelosses,majorlayoffs,andthefirstwaveofconsolidationa
4、crosstheentirevaluechain.Atthesametime,2009wasanotherrecord-breakingyearfortheglobalPVindustry,withover7GWofmodulesinstalled,totalmoduleproductionof8.95GW,andcellproductionof10.66GW–a51%increaseover2008cellproductionof7.05GW(itselfan88%increaseover2007).Ashasbeenwell-documented,thebulkofthesemo
5、dulesendedupbeingdeployedinGermanyinthethirdandfourthquartersof2009,withexistingyear-enddigressions,thethreatofmoreseverecuts,andmodulepricedeclines(from$4.00perwattinmid-2008to$2.00perwattbytheendof2009)alldoingtheirparttodriveanunprecedentedinstallationvolumeof1.3GWinthelastquarteroftheyear.W
