3、tiveAmericansleftapermanentmarkontheEnglishlanguage.TheearlyEnglish-speakingsettlersborrowedfromseveraldifferentNativeAmericanlanguageswordsforplacesinthisnewland.Allacrossthecountryarecities,towns,rivers,andstateswithnativeAmericannames.Forexample,thestatesofDelaware,Iowa,Illinois,andAlabam
4、aarenamedafterNativeAmericantribes,asarethecitiesofChicago,Miami,andSpokane.Inadditiontoplacenames,EnglishadoptedfromvariousNativeAmericanlanguagesthewordsforanimalsandplantsfoundintheAmericas,Chipmunk,moose,raccoon,skunk,tobacco,andsquasharejustafewexamples.AlthoughthevocabularyofEnglishist
5、heareathatshowsthemostNativeAmericaninfluence,itisnottheonlyareaofU.S.culturethathasbeenshapedbycontactwithNativeAmericans.ArtifanotherareaofimportantNativeAmericancontributions.WoolrugswovenbywomenoftheNavajoTribeinArizonaandNewMexicoarehighlyvaluedworksofartintheUnitedStates.NativeAmerican
