3、residual,iscommonlyattributedtotechnicalprogressorthecontributionofinnovationinthesenseIhaveusedtheterm.Economicgrowthisdrivensignificantlybyinnovationwhichincreasesthestockofusefulknowledge.Theprocessofinnovationislargelyendogenous,influencedbyincentives,institutionsandpoliti
4、caleconomy.Thepaperexpositstheanalyticsofthecontributiontogrowthofinnovationdrawingonsomerecentmodelsofendogenousgrowth.Increasingopennessbyreducingtradebarriersandbyencouragingforeigninvestment,playsanimportantroleinspurringinnovation,particularlyasitoccursthroughlearningbydo
5、ing.InsomemodelsoftradebetweentheindustrializedNorthwhichinnovates,andthedevelopingSouthwhichimitatesNortherninnovation,tradeacceleratestherateofinnovationintheNorthbecauseofthethreatofimitationbytheSouth.Entrepreneurshipandfactorsthatareconducivetoitsexistenceareexplored.Anen
6、trepreneurisonewithaninnovativeideawhichsheherselforotherstowhomshesellsorlicensesitimplement.Theentrepreneurassumesinpartoralloftheriskofprofitorlossofthebusinessventure.Issuesofaccesstocapitalorfinance,intellectualpropertyprotectionandthechancesoftheideaoftheentrepreneurbein
7、gstolenorappropriatedifsheherselfdoesnotimplementitareexplored.Theroleofventurecapitalinfinancingstart-upenterprisesisfoundtobeimportant,bothbecauseitrelievesfinancialconstraintsandbecausetheventurecapitalistcarefullyscreenstheideasoftheentrepreneurandalsomonitorstheenterprise
