2、fluxreluctancemachines(VFRMs)withdifferentrotorpolenumbers,whichemployadoublysalientstructuretogetherwithfieldwindingsidenticallylocatedinthestatorforeachphase,areinvestigatedandcompared.Differentfromotherdoublysalientmachines,suchasswitchedreluctancemachines(SRM)anddoublyfeddou
3、blysalientmachines(DFDSM),theequationfordeterminingthestator/rotorpolenumbers,i.e.,,isnolongerlimitedinVFRMs.Morefeasibleselectionsofrotorpolenumberscanbeusedifthestator/rotorpolenumberscansatisfy.Thus,fora6-statorpolemachinenotonlytherotorpolenumbercanbeselectedasevennumbers,
4、suchas4-and8-rotorpoles,whicharecommonlyusedforSRMandDFDSM,butoddnumbers,suchas5-and7-rotorpoles,arealsofeasible.Thebenefitsofusing5-and7-rotorpolesarethecancellationofeven-orderharmonicstogetherwiththethird-orderharmonicintheflux-linkageandback-EMF.Hence,moresinusoidalback-EMFc
5、anbeobtainedtoproducealowertorqueripple.Thecancellationin5-and7-rotorpolemachinesisbecausethefluxgeneratedbyfieldandarmaturewindingscanpassthroughtheadjacentstatorpolestoformashorterfluxpath,whichcanfurtherincreasetheiraveragetorque.Tovalidatetheanalysis,fourprototypemachineswith
