3、odalparameters,namelythenaturalfrequencies,modeshapesanddampingratios,and/ortheirderivations,whichalesuitableforlinearsystems.Nonlinearityisgenericinengineeringstructures.Forexample,theinitiationanddevel—opmentofcracksincivilengineeringstructuresastypicalstructuraldamagesarenonli
4、nearprocess.Oneofthemajorchallengesindamagedetection,earlywarninganddamageprognosisistoobtainreasonablyaccurateidentificationofnonlinearperformancesuchashysteresiswhichisthedirectindicatorofdamageinitiationanddevelopmentunderdy-namicexcitations.Inthisstudy,ageneraldata—basedident
5、ificationapproachforhystereticperformanceinformofnon-linearrestoringforceusingstructuraldynamicresponsesandcompleteandincompleteexcitationmeasurementtimeserieswasproposedandvalidatedwitha4-storyframestructureequippedwithsmartdevicesofmagneto—rheological(MR)dampertosimulatenonline
6、arperformance.Firstly,asanoptimizationmethod,theleast—squarestechniquewasem—ployedtoidentifythesystemmatricesofanequivalentlinearsystemofthenonlinearstructuremodelbasingontheexci-tationforceandthecorrespondingvibrationmeasurementswithimpacttestwhencompleteandincompleteexcitations
7、;andsecondly,thenonlinearrestoringforceofthestructurewasidentifiedandcomparedwiththetestmeasurementsfi—nally.Resultsshowthattheproposeddata—basedapproachiscapableofidentifyingthenonlinearbehaviorofen~neeringstructuresandcanbeemployedtoevaluatethedamageinitiationanddevelopmentofdi
