2、entDeliveryNetworks(CDNs)haveevolvedtoovercometheinherentlimitationsoftheInternetintermsofuserperceivedQualityofService(QoS)whenaccessingWebcontent.ACDNreplicatescontentfromtheoriginservertocacheservers,scatteredovertheglobe,inordertodelivercontenttoend-usersinareliableandti
3、melymannerfromnearbyoptimalsurrogates.ContentdistributionontheInternethasreceivedconsiderableresearchattention.Itcombinesdevelopmentofhigh-endcomputingtechnologieswithhigh-performancenetworkinginfrastructureanddistributedreplicamanagementtechniques.Therefore,ouraimistocatego
4、rizeandanalyzetheexistingCDNs,andtoexploretheuniqueness,weaknesses,opportunities,andfuturedirectionsinthisfield.Inthispaper,weprovideacomprehensivetaxonomywithabroadcoverageofCDNsintermsoforganizationalstructure,contentdistributionmechanisms,requestredirectiontechniques,andp
5、erformancemeasurementmethodologies.WestudytheexistingCDNsintermsoftheirinfrastructure,request-routingmechanisms,contentreplicationtechniques,loadbalancing,andcachemanagement.Wealsoprovideanin-depthanalysisandstate-of-the-artsurveyofCDNs.Finally,weapplythetaxonomytomapvarious
