2、thehouseI’dstillbelivinginalmost30yearslater. Itseemedridiculous.Onapracticallevel,there’snowayIcouldaffordtobuyahouseanytimesoon.Moreimportantly,Iwouldn’twantto.I’mnotsurewhereI’llbelivingintwoyears,orwhatkindofjobI’llhave.AndIdon’tthinkI’llbereadytosettl
3、edownandstayinoneplace. Sothisisprobablythegenerationgapthatdividesmyfriendsandmefromourparents.Whenourparentswereourage,they’dgottentheireducation,chosenacareer,andwerestartingtosettleintoresponsibleadultlives. MyfriendsandI–“GenerationY”–stillar
4、en’tsurewhatwewanttodowithourlives.Whateverweendupdoing,wewanttomakesurewe’rehappydoingit.We’drathertakerisksfirst,tryoutdifferentjobs,andmovefromonecitytoanotheruntilwefindourfavoriteplace.We’dratherspendourmoneyontravelthanputitinasavingsaccount. Thiscasua
5、lattitudetowardresponsibilityhascausedsomecriticstocallmygeneration“arrogant”,“impatient”,and“overprotected”.Someofthesecomplaintshaveapoint.Aschildrenwewereencouragedtosucceedinschool,butalsotohavefun.Wegrewupinaworldfulloftechnologicalinnovation:cellphones,theInt
6、ernet,instantmessaging,andvideogames. Ourparentslookedtorisevertically(垂直的)--startingatthebottomoftheladderandslowlymakingtheirwaytothetop,onthesametrack,oftenforthesamecompany.Thatdoesn’tapplytomygeneration. Becauseofthat,itmaytakeuslongerthanourparent
