2、sfiltersinmicrowavesandoptics.WereviewthebasicpropertiesoftheFSSsanddescribeseveraldiffer-entapproachestopredictingtheirfrequencyresponsecharacter-istics.Somerecentdevelopmentsinthetreatmentoftruncated,curved,anddoublyperiodicscreensarementionedandrep

3、resen-tativeresultsareincluded.I.INTRODUCTIONFrequencySelectiveSurfaces(FSSs),whichfindwide-spreadapplicationsasfiltersformicrowavesandopticalsignals,havebeenthesubjectofextensivestudiesinrecentyears.Thesesurfacescompriseperiodicallyarrangedmetallicpa

4、tchelementsorapertureelementswithinametallicscreenandexhibittotalreflection(patches)ortransmission(apertures)intheneighborhoodoftheele-amentresonance.TypicalFSSgeometriesareshowninFig.’I1.Thereflectionortransmissionbandispredictedbyana-lyzingthesurfac

5、eusingtechniqueswhichareefficientandwhichcanmodelawiderangeofconfigurations.Inthispaper,techniquescurrentlyusedinthisanalysisarereviewed.ThetechniquesareusedinthedesignofFSSsand,asoutlinedinthelastsectionofthispaper,arethebasisforresearchintorelatedst
