4、tterns,SouthAfrica,therelationshipbetweenminemigrationandandcollectsalivasamplesforHIVtestingfromtheirclients.HIVhasbeenstudiedindetailintheminingtownofDataonHIVprevalenceanddemographiccharacteristicsofCarletonville,13butveryfewdataareavailableonHIVsexworkersoper
5、atingatthetruckstopswereobtainedfromamongtruckdriversandthesexworkerswithwhomtheyanongoingvaginalmicrobicidetrial.interact.Results:Themeanageofthetruckdrivers(allmen)was37years(range,18–71years),andthatofthesexworkers(allInavaginalmicrobicidetrialconductedbetween
6、1996females)was25years(range,15–49years).Sixty-sixpercentofand1999,theHIVprevalenceamongsexworkersatfivethemenreportedhavingasexuallytransmittedinfectioninthetruckstopsalongamajornationaltruckingroutewas51%previoussixmonths,and37%alwaysstoppedforsexalongthe(95%CI,
7、4756%)andtheannualincidenceofHIVinfec-route.Twenty-ninepercentreportedneverusingcondomstionwas18%(95%CI,1323%)(authorsunpublishedwithsexworkers,whereas13%hadusedcondomswiththeirwives.AllmentraveledtomorethanoneprovinceinSouthdata).Africa,and65%traveledtoneighbori
