3、etheparallelismacrossthemobiledevice1.INTRODUCTIONandserver.Toanswerthesequestions,wedevelopandevaluateAstheprocessing,communicationandsensingcapabilitiesofthreeinteractiveperceptualapplications.Wefindthatoffloadingmobiledevicesincrease,anewclassofmobileinteractiveper-andparallelismchoic
4、esshouldbedynamic,evenforagivenappli-ceptionapplicationsisemerging.Theseapplicationsusecamerascation,asperformancedependsonscenecomplexityaswellasen-andotherhigh-dataratesensorstoperformperceptiontasks,likevironmentalfactorssuchasthenetworkanddevicecapabilities.Tofaceorobjectrecognitio
5、n,andenablenaturalhuman-machinein-thisendwedevelopOdessa,anovel,lightweight,runtimethatau-terfacesandinteractiveaugmented-realityexperiencesonmobiletomaticallyandadaptivelymakesoffloadingandparallelismdeci-devices[16,21].Forexample,facerecognitioncouldbeusedbysionsformobileinteractivepe
6、rceptionapplications.OurevaluationasocialnetworkingapplicationthatrecognizespeopleastheusershowsthattheincrementalgreedystrategyofOdessaconvergestosweepsthecameraacrossacrowdedroom;agesturerecognitionanoperatingpointthatisclosetoanidealofflinepartitioning.Itbasednaturaluserinterfacecoul
7、dbeusedtocontrolamediaappli-providesmorethana3ximprovementinapplicationperformancecationrunningonthemobiledevice;andobjectandposerecogni-overpartitioningsuggestedbydomainexperts.Odessaworkswelltioncanbeusedbyanaugmentedrealityshoppingapplicationthatacrossavarietyofexecutionenvironmen
