3、eoplewithcancer.ThisguideforpatientsisbasedonASCO’srecommendations.BACKGROUNDAbloodclot(alsocalledathrombus)isaserioussideeffectofcancerandcancertreatment.Itmaydevelopinanyvein(abloodvesselthatcarriesbloodtotheheart),butithappensmostofteninthelegs,thighs,orpelvis(lowerabdomen).Thisiscalled
4、deepveinthrombosis(DVT).Abloodclotthatbreaksawayfromtheplaceitformedandtravelsthroughtheveinstoadifferentsiteiscalledathromboembolism.Apulmonaryembolism(PE)isabloodclotinthelung,whichisapotentiallylife-threateningcondition.Bloodclotsoccurfrequentlyinpeoplewithcancerandarebecomingmorecommon

6、tastaticcancer(cancerthathasspreadtootherareasofthebodyfromtheoriginalorgan)•Cancertreatment,includingsurgery,chemotherapy,andhormonetherapy.Antiangiogenicdrugs(drugsthatblocktheformationofnewbloodvessels),suchasthalidomide(Synovir,Thalomid)and(Coumadin).Adoctormayuseanon-drugmethod,lenali
