2、incomputerscienceisprovidingprogram-mingmodelsandabstractionsthatallowefficientandcorrectparallelprogramstobeexpressed.Thechallengeoccursinanumberofdomains,withdifferentscalesofparalellismrequired.Intheconsumerspace,eightortencoreswillsoonbecommonondesktopcomputers,andtheperformanceofsoft

3、warewhichcan-nottakefulladvantageofmanycoreswilllag.Inthescientificspace,scientificinvestigationsincreasinglyrequirecomputationallyintensivesimulationanddatacrunchingoncomputerclusters.Coordinationlanguagesareonewayinwhichtheproblemofwritingparallelprogramscanbemademoremanageable.Acoordina

4、tionlanguageprovidesaspecializedwaytospecifythecommunicationandsynchronizationbetweenthedifferentcomponentsofaparallelordistributedapplication.Inmanycases,theparallelisminaprogramisnaturallyexpressedastaskparallelism,whereinde-pendenttaskswhichproduceandconsumedatacanruninparallel.Thispa

5、perproposesanddemonstratesthefeasibilityofembeddingatask-parallelcoordinationlanguage,PyDFlow,intothegeneral-purposescriptinglan-guagePython.PyDFlowcurrentlysupportslooselycoupledworkflows,wheretaskscommunicatethroughinputandoutputfiles,butthelanguageisdesignedtobeextensiblebeyondthis.PyDF

6、lowrepresentsparallelcomputationsasgraphsoftaskslinkedbydatadependenciesandprovidesaprogrammingmodelsomewhatakintofunctionallanguages,wherecomputationsarespecifiedbyconstructingexpressionsbycom-posingfunctions.Thisgivesnaturalsyntaxandsemanticsforexpressingaparallelordistributedcomputatio
