2、antdevelopmentalprogrammeddegenerationprocessthatdramaticallyaffectscropqualityandyield.Theregulationofsenescenceishighlycomplex.AlthoughsenescenceregulatorygeneshavebeenwellcharacterizedinmodelspeciessuchasArabidopsisandrice,thereislittleinformationonthecontrolofthisproce
3、ssincotton.Here,thesenescenceprocessincotton(GossypiumhirsutumL.)leaveswasinvestigatedoveratimecourseincludingyoungleaf,matureleafandleafsamplesfromdifferentsenescencestagesusingRNA-Seq.Results:Of24,846genesdetectedbymappingthetagstoGossypiumgenomes,3,624geneswereidentifie
4、dasdifferentiallyexpressedduringleafsenescence.Therewassomeoverlapbetweenthegenesidentifiedhereandsenescence-associatedgenespreviouslyidentifiedinotherspecies.Mostofthegenesrelatedtophotosynthesis,chlorophyllmetabolismandcarbonfixationweredownregulated;whereasthoseforplant
5、hormonesignaltransductionwereupregulated.Quantitativereal-timePCRwasusedtoevaluatetheresultsofRNA-Seqforgeneexpressionprofiles.Furthermore,519differentiallyexpressedtranscriptionfactorswereidentified,notablyWRKY,bHLHandC3H.Inaddition,960genesinvolvedinthemetabolismandregul
6、ationofeighthormoneswereidentified,ofwhichmanygenesinvolvedintheabscisicacid,brassinosteroid,jasmonicacid,salicylicacidandethylenepathwayswereupregulated,indicatingthatthesehormone-relatedgenesmightplaycrucialrolesincottonleafdevelopmentandsenescence.However,mostauxin,cyto
7、kininandgibberellinpathway-relatedgenesweredownregulated,suggestingthatthesethreehormonesmayactasnegativeregulatorsofsenescence.Conclusions:Thisisthefirsthigh-resolution,multipletime-course,genome-widecomprehensiveanalysisofgeneexpressionincotton.Thesedataarethemostcompreh
