3、ofadaptationamongChineseimmigrants.Thedataonwhichourstudyisbasedentailacontentanalysisofase-lectionofnewspapers,televisionandradioprograms,andwebsites,supplementedbytelephoneorface-to-faceinterviews.Weattempttoanswerafundamentalques-tion:Doestheethnicmediainhibitorpromotetheassimilationo
4、fimmigrantsintoAmericansociety?WefindthattheChineselanguagemedianotonlyconnectsimmigrantstotheirhostsociety,butalsoservesasaroadmapforthefirstgen-erationtoincorporateintoAmericansocietybypromotingthemobilitygoalsofhomeownership,entrepreneurship,andeducationalachievement.KEYWORDS:Chinesemed

6、grationafterWorldWarIIandtheenactmentofthe1965immigrationlegislation,theChineseAmericancom-munityhasincreasedmorethantenfold:from237,292in1960to1,645,472in1990,andtoabout2.8million(includingsome450,000mixed-racepersons)in2000.Muchofthistremendousgrowthisaccountedforbyimmigration.Ac-cordi
