3、mosteconomicallysignificantinteractionbetweentwofungi.Workde-scribedinthischaptercoversdiverseaspectsofthebiologyandmolecularinteractionofthehostandpathogenandhasestablishedarobustbaselineforfuturestudyofapathogenicsysteminvolvingtwomembersofthesamekingdom.Pathogen
4、variabilityhasbeenassessed,andspecificgenotypesimpor-tanttomajormushroom-producingcountrieshavebeencharacterised.Thishasenabledrepresentativeisolatestobeidentifiedforuseinthisstudy.Awiderangeofcell-wall-degradingenzymesfromV.fungicolahavebeenidentified,andprincipalco
5、mponentanalysisshowedacomplexcor-relationbetweenenzymeproductionandsymptomexpression.Itislikelythatsome,orindeedmanyoftheseenzymesplayacriticalroleinthepathogenicityofVerticillium.AlthoughitisgenerallyacceptedthatA.bisporushasarelativelynarrowgeneticbase,ourwork,a
