2、ParticleSwarmOptimizationMethodsforPatternRecognitionandImageProcessingbyMahamedG.H.OmranAbstractPatternrecognitionhasasitsobjectivetoclassifyobjectsintodifferentcategoriesandclasses.Itisafundamentalcomponentofartificialintelligenceandcomputervision.Thisthesisinvestigate

3、stheapplicationofanefficientoptimizationmethod,knownasParticleSwarmOptimization(PSO),tothefieldofpatternrecognitionandimageprocessing.FirstaclusteringmethodthatisbasedonPSOisproposed.Theapplicationoftheproposedclusteringalgorithmtotheproblemofunsupervisedclassificationan

4、dsegmentationofimagesisinvestigated.Anewautomaticimagegenerationtooltailoredspecificallyfortheverificationandcomparisonofvariousunsupervisedimageclassificationalgorithmsisthendeveloped.Adynamicclusteringalgorithmwhichautomaticallydeterminesthe"optimum"numberofclustersand

5、simultaneouslyclustersthedatasetwithminimaluserinterferenceisthendeveloped.Finally,PSO-basedapproachesareproposedtotacklethecolorimagequantizationandspectralunmixingproblems.Inalltheproposedapproaches,theinfluenceofPSOparametersontheperformanceoftheproposedalgorithmsisev
