3、ionlayinwinningtheDemocraticprimary.Tothatend,JosephKennedy,Sr.pulledoutallthestops.UsinghisconnectionsintheBostonnewspapers,heplayeduphisfamily'scharitablework,theirstaunchCatholicism,andJFK'sstatusasawarhero.Afortunewaspouredintostreetcaradvertisingfortheyoungcandidate,andlocalpo
4、liticiansweremobilizedtolendtheirsupport.JFK'sopponentsaccusedhimofbeingarich,spoiledcarpetbagger,slummingforvotesinapoordistrict,butnoonecoulddoubthisenergyandenthusiasm.Gauntandpalefromhislongillnesses,heneverthelessmadecountlessappearancesandspeechesaroundthedistrict,marchedinpa
