1、PrefaceThesurvivalanalysishasbecomeanincreasinglyactiveandveryimportantareaofresearch.Thisisclearlyevidentfromthelargebodyofliteraturethathasbeendevelopedintheformofbooks,volumesandresearchpapers.Inaddition,severalconferences,workshopsandshortcourseshavebeenconducteda

2、llovertheworldduringthepasttwodecades.ThisisthereasonwefeltthatitisindeedarighttimetodedicateavolumeintheHandbookofStatisticsseriestohighlightsomerecentadvancesinboththeoryandapplicationsintheareaofsurvivalanalysis.Withthisspecificpurposeinmind,wesolicitedarticlesfroml
