2、stemonaChipdesignsdictatesacohesivemethodologyforco-simulationatbothhighandlowabstractionlevels,effectivedesignspaceexploration,systemintegrationandhighsimulationspeeds.AsingleunifieddesignflowwouldavoidmanyoftheshortcomingsfacedbythetraditionalRTLapproachtodesignandverification.

3、ThisthesisinvestigatedaSystemCrbaseddesignmethodologytomodelcomplexdigitalsystemsatmultiplelevelsofabstraction.TheSystemClanguage,whichisaC++classlibrary,isamulti-paradigmlanguageforhardwaredesignandverification.ThecapabilitiesofSystemCinsupportingtimedbehavior,hierarchy,concu

4、rrency,andcreationoffastexecutablespecificationsofthetargetdesignhavebeendemon-stratedinourwork.Itwasouraimtoclearlyrepresenttheabilityoftheproposeddesignflowtocaptureandvalidatethedetailsofadesignatthesystemlevelofabstraction,startingwithanabstractFunctionalVerificationlevel,wo

5、rkingourwaythroughtotheCycleAccuratelevel.ThiswasexemplifiedbythedesignofacomplexIterativeTurboDecoderalgorithmasaprototypesystemtotestourdesignflow.WecomparedthedecoderbehavioratthesystemlevelusingSystemCandattheRTLus-ingVerilog2001r.Wefoundthatsimulationsperformedatthesysteml

6、evelexecutedmuchfasterthansimulationsattheRTL.Weusedthesystemleveldesigntoestimateround-offerrorswithouthavingtorefineourdesigntotheRTL.WedemonstratedtheeaseofarchitecturalexplorationusingSystemCbyimplementingtwoclassesofinterleaversfortheTurboDecoder:thePseudoRandomandthe3GPPS
