3、hedulingproblemanditspracticalrelevancefromthepointofviewoftheContainerTerminalAltenwerder(CTA)inHamburg,Germany,isdescribed.InAltenwerder,26yardblocksorthogonaltothequaywithtransferareasatbothendsofeachblockareoperatedwithdoublerailmountedgantries(DRMG).Inthesecondpartofthepaper,anoutlineo
4、fanewschedulingalgorithmforyardcranesonthisparticularlayoutisgiven.Theprocedureminimizesdelaysforthejobsandthecycletimesofthecranes.Inadditiontoin-motiontimesalsootherpartsofthecycletime,aswaitingandblockingtimesresultingfromothercranes,aretakenintoaccountintheschedulingapproach.Abranchandb
5、oundalgorithmisusedtocreatesequencesofjobsforeachcrane.Usingasimulationmodel,boththeinfluenceofthelengthofthesesequencesandtheimpactoftechnicalbreakdownsontheresultsareanalysed.Finally,theresultsareverifiedwithoperationaldataandtheapplicabilityforpracticeattheCTAisevaluated.1IntroductionCon
