3、putationalmodelofwordrecognition,theBayesianReader.TheBayesianReadersuccessfullysimulatessomeofthemostsignificantdataonhumanreading.Themodelaccountsforthenatureofthefunctionrelatingword-frequencytoreactiontimeandidentificationthreshold,theeffectsofneighborhoodde

4、nsityanditsinteractionwithfrequency,andthevariationinthepatternofneighborhooddensityeffectsseenindifferentexperimentaltasks.Boththegeneralbehaviorofthemodel,andthewaythemodelpredictsdifferentpatternsofresultsindifferenttasks,followentirelyfromtheassumptionthathu

5、manreadersapproximateoptimalBayesiandecision-makers.BayesianReader1IntroductionWordsthatappearfrequentlyinthelanguagearerecognizedmoreeasilythanwordsthatappearlessfrequently.Thisfactisperhapsthesinglemostrobustfindinginthewholeliteratureonvisualwordrecognition.T
