2、yonasubstrate,themotionofadislocationonanyparticularglideplaneinthelayercanbeinfluencedbythepresenceofdislocationsonotherglideplanes.Thefocushereisontheglideofadislocationextendingfromthefreesurfaceofthelayertothelayer-substrateinterface,theso-canedthreadingdislocatio

3、n.Ageneraldefinitionofdrivingforceforglideofathreadingdislocationinanonuniformstressfieldisadoptedtocalculatethedrivingforceonathreadingdislocationduetoanencounterwithaninterfacemisfitdislocationonanintersectingglideplane.Theresultisexaminedindetailforthecaseofcubicma

4、terials,takingintoaccountdifferentcombinationsofBurgersvectors.TheanalysismakesitclearthatthemisfitdislocationforcesthethreadingdislocationtoglidethroughachannelofwidthlessthanthefuUlayerthickness.Ablockingcriterionisproposed,basedonthepresumptionthatblockingwilloccur

5、ifthechannelwidthislessthanthecriticalthicknessforthelocalreducedstrain.Theresultsindicatethatthiseffectcanbesignificantinblockingtheglideofathreadingdislocation,dependingonthemismatchstrainmagnitudeandthelayerthickness.tINTRODUCTIONsupplyofthreadingdislocationswherea
