2、eitsstate.Outofthe600thousandbridges,almost14%isstructurallyobsoleteandanother14%isfunctionallyobsolete.Concretebridgeconditionassessmentisachallengetobridgeinspectorsbecauseofthevarietyofproblemsthatmayexist.Therefore,theneedforinnovativeinspectionandmaintenanceprogramsisrisingandnewtechnologie

3、sarebeingappliedtofacilitatethedetectionofdifferentdefectsthataffectconcretebridges.Animportantcomponentoftheinspectionandrehabilitationofconcretebridgesistheabilitytoassesstheconditionofthebridge’sdeck.Theadventofnondestructiveevaluationtechniquesaidedthistask.Severalnondestructivetechniqueshav

4、ebeensuccessfullyutilizedtodetectcommondefectsinconcretebridgedecks.ThispaperwillstudyGroundPenetratingRadar(GPR)andImpactEcho(IE)abilitiesinthedetectionofthemostcommonconcretebridgedeckdefectsfacedbyinspectorsusingfabricatedbridgedeckswithsimulateddefects.Thesesimulateddeckswillbeusedtovalidate

5、andcomparetheabilitiesofbothmethodsindetectingthepresenceofcracks,delaminations,andvoids.BackgroundGroundPenetratingRadar(GPR)dependsontheuseofelectromagneticwavestopropagatedielectricmaterialsemployingtheuseofradar(RadioDetectionandRanging)andradiowavesemittedfromasourcetodetectanobjectanddeter

6、minethesize,direction,distanceandpropertiesoftheobjectafteritreflectssomeoftheenergythatfallsonit(Maser1996).Thematerialsdielectricconstantistheamountofelectrostaticenergystoredperunitvolumeforaunitpotentialgradient(Roddis1987).Itshowsthematerialabilitytobepolarizedandthereforeitsabilityofstorin
