2、disintegrationofflatsheetsproducedbysingle-holespraynozzlesatvariousdensitiesofthesurroundingair.Itisshownthataflatlaminarsheetinjectedinvacuaisstable,andthatdropsareformedonlyatitsedges;theprematurebreakdownreportedearlierhasbeenfoundtobeduetoexternalcauses.Athigherairdensitiesthesheetisdisrup
3、tedbyaerodynamicwavesandprevioustheoriespredictingtheirwavelengthandgrowthhavebeenextendedtoshowthattheformofthecontrollingequationiscriticallydependentontheoperatingconditions;experimentalverificationispresentedforthesefindings.Theoreticalexpressionsforthesizeofdropsgroducedfromfanspraysheetsh
4、avealsobeendeve-loped.Thesedemonstratethesurprisingresultthatundercertainoperatingconditions,thedropsizeincreaseswithambientdensity.Thispredictionhasbeenverifiedexperimentally,thedropsizeinitiallydecreasing,butpassingthroughaminimumwithfurtherincreaseofambientdensityINTRODUCTIONstable.Inpractic
5、e,spraynozzlesproduceattenuat-THEsprayingofliquidsformsanintegralpartofingliquidsheetswhichusuallybecomeunstablemanyprocessesinagricultural,combustionandbythegrowthofwaves,causedbyaerodynamicchemicalengineering,andmuchdataisavailableforces(Fig.1).However,becauseofthecomplexitytothedesigneronthe
6、performancecharacteristicsofthephenomenaithasonlyprovedpossibleofspraynozzlesinthequiescentambientatmo-[l,21toanalysetheconditionsofinstabilityforasphere.However,inmanyapplications,spraysaresheetwhosethicknessremainsconstantasitmovesproducedunderawidevarietyofconditions,theawayfromitsorigin.spr
