2、entstyles,projectandprocessmanagement,andperceivedoutcomesinpublic-privatepartnerships(PPPs).Theresearchisbasedonanextensiveface-to-facesurveyconductedwith32managersof18largecomplexinfrastructureprojects.Themanagerswereaskedquestionsaboutmanagementstr

3、ategiesandoutcomes.Basedontheoreticalliteratureonprocessandprojectmanagementweconceptualizedandmeasuredthesetwotypesofmanagementandlookedatwhichtypeofstrategiescontributedmoretoperceivedoutcomes.Theresultsshowthataprocessmanagementstylecorrelatestoout

4、comesandthatprojectmanagementdoesnotcorrelatetooutcomes.INTRODUCTIONThemanagementofpublic-privatepartnership(PPP)projectsisneversimpleandthemanagersofsuchpartnershipsareoftenrequiredtomakedifficultstrategicchoices(KoppenjanandKlijn2004).Shouldtheybege

5、nerousinincludinginterestedparties,orshouldtheydenyaccesstocertainactors?Shouldtheystrivefordecisive-nessandspeedintheprocess,orshouldtheyinsteadtakethetimetobuildsupportamongtheindividualswhohaveastakeintheproject?Shouldtheyberesoluteaboutthecontento

6、ftheprojectandthecourseitistotake,orshouldtheydemonstrateflexibilityandallowthecontenttobemoldedbyexternalcircumstances?Fromthemanyday-to-daydecisionsthatmanagersmake,twodifferentstylesofmanagementbecomeapparent:projectandprocessmanagement.Projectmana

7、gersarefocusedonresults,withcleargoalsanddetailedplansformanagingfinancesandmanpower(c.f.Mantel2005;MeredithandMantel2000).Processmanagers,ontheotherhand,aremorefocusedonguidingtheprocessbyreactingflexiblytochangesandbybringingdifferentactorstogether.
