3、orkerintheplantation.Beforetheageof25,Lincolndid'thavetheregularemployment.Although,itishardtowork,healwayshadapassionforreading.Attheyouthtime,hereadedalotofliteratureandhistorybooks,becamedaknowledgeableandwiseman.In1833,heborrowedmoneyfromfriendonceagaindobusiness,st
4、illwentbankruptattheendoftheyear.Inordertorepaythedebt,hespent16years.Hispoliticalcareeralsowasfulloffrustration,buthenevergaveuptheidealthatabolishtheslavery.LincolnmarriedMaryToddin1842,theyhadfoursons,butonlyone(Robert)survivedchildhood.Hestronglyopposedtheslavery,an
5、ddamagedthewealthysouthernplanters'interest.SixweeksafterbeocmingPresident,theCivilWarbegan.Preliminarywar,theNortharmysteadilyinlosingconditionbecauseofthepeacefulways.Heenactedhomesteadactandadvocatedemancipationoftheblackslavesin1862.AtGettysburg,hedeliveredafamoussp
6、eech.Sincethen,thenorthernarmywonvictorycontinuously.OnApril14,1865,anactorkilledhimwhenhewasattendingaplayatFord'sTheaterinWashington.HewasthefirstUSpresidenteverassassinated.Lincolnwasaoutstandingpolitician,madesignificantcontributiontotheAmericiansocialdevelopment.Th
