2、n,amusementandcommunicationetc.In2006,JianzhiwasenlistedintothefirstgroupofNationalIntangibleCulturalHeritagebytheStateCouncil,anditwaslistedintheUNESCOIntangibleCulturalHeritageListsin2009.Origin：Theartofpaper-cuttinginChinamaydatebacktothesecondcenturyC.E.,sincepaper
3、wasinventedbyCaiintheEasternHanDynastyinChina.Aspaperbecamemoreaffordable,paper-cuttingbecameoneofthemostimportanttypesofChinesefolkart.Later,thisartformspreadtootherpartsoftheworld,withdifferentregionsadoptingtheirownculturalstyles.Becausethecut-outsareoftenusedtodeco
4、ratedoorsandwindows,theyaresometimesreferredtoaspaper-cutforwindow,windowflowersorwindowpaper-cuts.Peoplegluedthepapercutstotheexteriorofwindows,sothelightfromtheinsidewouldshinethroughthenegativespaceofthecutout.Usually,theartworksaremadeofredpaper,asredisassociatedwi
5、thfestivitiesandhappinessinChineseculture,butotherscoloredwerealsoused.Normallypaper-cuttingartworkisusedonfestivalslikeSpringFestival,weddingsandchildbirth.Papercutsalwayssymbolizeluckandhappiness.Chinesepaper-cuttingoriginatedfromancientactivitiesofworshippingancesto
6、rsandgods,andisatraditionalpartofChineseculture.Accordingtoarchaeologicalrecords,itoriginatesfromthe6thcentury,althoughsomebelievethatitshistorycouldbetracedasfarbackastheWarringStatesperiod(around3BC),longbeforethepaperwasinvented.Atthattime,peopleusedotherthinmateria
7、ls,likeleaves,silverfoil,silkandevenleather,tocarvehollowedpatterns.Later,whenpaperwasinvented,peoplerealizedthatthismaterialwaseasytocut,storeanddiscard,andpaperbecamethemajormaterialforthistypeofartwork.DuringtheMingandQingdynasties(1368–1912),thisartistrywitnessedit
